How to Improve Your Home’s Summer Indoor Air Quality
Enhance your home's summer air quality with these simple tips!

Grand Rapids is in the middle of a heatwave, and it's not going to get cooler anytime soon. If you're like most, you'll be wanting to find the best way to keep cool indoors. Unfortunately, the air quality in your home may not be as good as it could be. Here are eight ways to improve the indoor air quality in your home this summer.
1. Use air-conditioning sparingly.
While you may want to turn up the air conditioning, doing so can make indoor air quality worse. Air conditioners circulate and recirculate the same air, which can cause dust and other pollutants to build up. If you must use air conditioning, make sure to change the filters regularly.
2. Keep your floors clean.
During the summer, dust, pollen, and debris can come in by way of open doors and windows. These pollutants can settle on your floors and be circulated by your air conditioner. In order to reduce the amount of allergens in your home, vacuum regularly and mop your floors often.
3. Use a humidifier.
Dry air can exacerbate respiratory problems. Humidifiers add moisture to the air, which can then help to reduce congestion and other symptoms. Just make sure to keep the humidifier clean to keep mold and bacteria from growing inside.
4. Don't forget about your pet.
Pets can carry in pollen and other allergens in their fur. Brush and bathe your pets regularly to minimize the amount of allergens getting into your home.
5. Clean your AC filters.
As mentioned above, air conditioners can circulate dust and other pollutants around your home. Replace or clean your AC filters regularly to prevent this from happening.
6. Add some potted plants.
Some plants have the amazing ability to naturally clean and freshen the air inside your home. Some of the plants most effective at air-purifying include aloe vera, spider plants, and peace lilies.
7. Watch how often you open your doors and windows.
While it's important to get some fresh air in your home, opening your doors and windows too often can let in pollutants like pollen and smoke. Limit the number of times you open your windows and doors each day.
8. Keep your home clean.
In general, a clean home is a healthier home. To reduce the amount of dust and other allergens in your home, vacuum regularly and dust with a damp cloth. You should also wash your bedding in hot water once a week.
By following these tips, you can improve your home’s air quality and breathe a little easier this summer. Want to boost your home’s air quality further? Just
